LQOTD-13-How do you measure success as a leader?

In today's episode of "Lead & SUCCEED: Startup Edition"

It's about developing people.

As leaders, our primary role is to help our team members grow – both professionally and personally. The most fulfilling part of leadership, after all, is to witness the growth of individuals who are part of your journey. Watching them evolve, gaining skills, and contributing significantly to the organizational goals - that's the real measure of your success as a leader.

In the cut-throat world of startups, we often tend to measure success by the business metrics – growth rate, revenue, user acquisition, and so on. But if you ask me, the true metric of success as a leader is something more human-centric and profound.

Of course, business metrics matter. They provide tangible proof of progress. But remember, these metrics are the result of a team working cohesively and passionately towards a common goal. And that comes from individuals who feel nurtured, appreciated, and driven to contribute their best.

In other words, success in business metrics is a by-product of success in people development.

So, as a leader, your primary metric should be: Am I developing people? Am I helping them grow as individuals, as professionals?

This perspective shift from numbers to people is vital, especially in startups. It fosters a culture of growth and learning, where every team member feels valued and motivated. And a motivated team is what truly drives a startup to success.

Remember, if you're not good at developing people, you need to revisit your leadership approach. Because that's what leadership is all about – helping others succeed.

In the next "Leadership Question of the Day," we'll explore more facets of effective leadership. Stay tuned!
